January 31st, 2010 admin 4 comments

I’m a writer and I think I can be a great director, but I am just not familiar with the equipment I need. Can someone tell me how much it cost to get the essential starting equipment to make my film at least look semi professional.

Which Of These Camcorders Should I Buy?

January 30th, 2010 admin 2 comments

I’m what you call a starter videographer–still learning the craft but knowledgeable enough to get jobs. Currently I have a job lined up for the summer filming a promo video for a small company. The CEO has given me a budget of $1200 with which to buy a new camera (somehow my little $120 sony camcorder just doesn’t cut it), so I’m shopping around. All I can say is thank goodness for ebay!
These are a few results from my search. All seem to come from reputable sellers and include a ton of extras! My preference is towards the panasonic AG -DVX100b because I have experience using that model, but I’d like an outside opinion. For a professional camera, which is the best one to buy?
DVCPro AJ-D400P
Panasonic AG-HPX500 P2HD SOLID STATE CAMCORDER
Panasonic AG-DVX100B 3CCD Camcorder

January 30th, 2010 admin 1 comment

I’m a film student and looking for student discounts on a professional camera. Where can I reliably find them?
My heart is set on a JVC GY-HM100U ProHD camcorder.
Basically, I want a 3CCD, high def but want to take advantage of student discounts while I can.
Any thoughts?

What’s The Best Handheld Digital Camcorder To Shoot A Short, Small-time Movie With?

January 29th, 2010 admin 2 comments

*preferably UNDER $1000* I really want to get into film production and I figured I would test the water - you have to start somewhere, right? I’m looking mostly for 1) high picture quality and 2) ability to execute simple cinematic effects like focusing in and out on an object. I may show it to the admissions directors at UCLA as part of my “portfiolio” when applying to the film school next year, so I really would like it to look professional as possible.

Help Me Buy A Camcorder…internal Flash Memory, Internal Flash Drive, Hard Drive, Flash Drive…what It Means?

January 29th, 2010 admin 2 comments

I need help buying a camcorder.
Money is not an issue. (under $2,000 i guess)…one of the compact consumer ones, not the big professional ones.
What I am looking for in a camera
-EXCELLENT QUALITY is NUMBER ONE!
-lots of recording time (at LEAST 3-4 hours because I will sacrifice recording time for quality)
-Being able to upload and edit on the computer (i know the mini HD DVD casette things are best for this, but I am not necessarily interested in that but am open to it, or at least a hybrid)
-decent handy features on the camera (not a must)
-cool features on the camera (not a must)
-i want to film all kinds of things. kids and pets, vacations, sceneries, piano recitals, martial arts tournaments, night scenes, anything imaginable that would be the best quality on a non-professional camcorder.
Please tell me what you feel is the best brand
(Canon, Panasonic etc….even though I get the feeling that at the high end of quality the brand is no longer as important)….i like canon products, but no big deal
Also please tell me the difference in all of the types of memory listed in my question title
What camera should I keep my eye on?
What should I avoid?
I am particulary looking for the details in the differences between the major categories of camcorders there are so that I can chose for my self wtih your help.
If my question is unclear and you want to help but you need more information about my camera use please email me at tambubblz88@aol.com so that we can talk about this.
I have my eye on the Canon VIXIA HF S10….but i dont know if it is the best camera for me. it will come out around april 2009 for about $1,500. But I am just biased because it is canon and lke a dumb consumer i think more money means better quality….share ur knowledge…THANKS!

Can A Pro Hd Camcorder Be Connected To My Laptop?

January 27th, 2010 admin 2 comments

if i get a professional HD camcorder that cost $3,500, can it still transfer data to my Dell Inspiron E1505? My local disk has
40G of memory because i have a backup thing. Here are the cameras i might want to get :http://www.amazon.com/JVC-GY-HD110U-Defi…http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?…
I’m never going to play it on TV because i have SD Tv. But i was wondering if Firewire/i-link can connect these camcorders to my laptop. I know its going to be a MPEG 4 format but i don’t care. I just want to know how to connect a Pro HD camcorder to a 40G local disk Laptop.

I Want A High-end Camcorder That I Can Use For Student Film Production?

January 26th, 2010 admin 3 comments

I want my work to look semi-professional, with as many optional manual features as possible (aperture, white balance, etc.).
The range of cameras out there is daunting, especially considering that, no matter which camera I look at, it seems to excel in certain areas and fail in others which are equally important for film use. For example, a camera with great visual quality that doesn’t port to PC well for editing and whatnot.
Any film students out there who’d like to recommend a certain camera?
Thanks!

Camcorder: Quality Over Expense.?

January 26th, 2010 admin 2 comments

My friends and I are looking to make an amateur, low-budget film. We’re only 16, and we need a new camcorder. The ones we’ve been using are generic ones that don’t look very good when the videos are posted. I’ve looked online, and professional camcorders seem to be $3,000+, which is obviously out of our league. Are there any professional camcorders in the lower price range? Or maybe some consumer camcorders that have good quality?
